Brant's August/September 2026 Playlist

Summer's been kinda hairy, but I'm doing my best to enjoy it...

Clearly I am late with this month's playlist, and things aren't looking any better for September!  We'll just call this the August/September playlist.  Anyway, it's the usual mix of stuff - familiar favorites, a few cool reissues, and other quirky selections.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  No More Regrets (Almost Monday) - Upbeat Indie band (and frequent Brantworld listees) kick us off with this disco-influenced ditty!

2. Wayuwanna (Mr. Fantasy) - I'm still enjoying this mysterious artist's dance-pop confections.

3.  Spellbinding Lover (Patrick Cowley feat. Jeannie Tracy) - Previously unreleased tracks from the legendary (and gone to soon!) dance music producer.  This groovy jam immediately grabbed me.

4.  All Night, All Right (Cory Wong feat. Taylor Hanson) - Unexpected appearance by a Hanson brother makes this easygoing R&B track all the more engaging!

5.  No Curfew (Elyn Lane) - Some Latin rhythms for our summer!

6.  Summer Breeze (Akeylah Simone) - I was thrilled to get a message from my friend Jill, who shared what she's got on heavy rotation these days.  This is from her summer playlist!  

7.  I Knew You Were Waiting for Me (Meshell Ndegeocello with Cynthia Erivo) - Gorgeous cover of the Aretha/George Michael classic by two contemporary chanteuses.  

8.  Get It Back (Genya Ravan) - I'm still on my Genya Ravan kick.  This funky track is from her 1974 "Goldie Zelkowitz" album.  It easily could've been on any Stevie wonder album from that time! Not on Spotify but you can listen to it here.

9.  Don't Leave Me on the Dance Floor (Carly Rae Jepsen) - I was super surprised to hear CRJ has a double album coming out!  She just had a baby in March!  Man, I feel slack.  

10.  Danceteria (Madonna) - I'm so impressed a 67 year old can put out a credible dance/club album.  This is one of my personal faves from Confessions II.  

11.  The Waiting Room (Fantastic Cat) - Recently formed Indie band has already worked with the likes of Butch Walker and Adam Duritz!  It'll be interesting to see what's next.  

12.  Paradise (Brandon Flowers) - I'm getting Roy Orbison vibes from this solo effort by the Killers lead singer.  

13.  You You You (Maisie Peters) - We had her on last month's playlist, and this is another tune from the English singer-songwriter's latest album.  Lord knows we've all had relationships that seemed to take over our lives! 

14.  Mill Town Flood (Billy Strings) - Multiple Grammy winner is still going strong with his homespun country/bluegrass!

15.  Joy (Role Model) - Frequent Brantworld listee seems to get better with every new song he puts out! 

16.  So Happy It Hurts (Bryan Adams) - I caught Bryan Adams when he came through Charlotte this month and he put on a great show.  Unfortunately I couldn't stay for the entire performance, but this new song caught my attention!  Wish I'd been able to see the rest of the concert.  

17.  Back in Time for the Weekend (the Cleaners from Venus) - I'm not sure where I heard this one.  The band has been around for a while, but this is the first I can say I've heard them.  It sounds like the jazzy pop we used to get back in the 1980s!  Think: "Captain of Her Heart" by Double or "Long Hot Summer" by Style Council.

18.  Violets for Your Furs (John Coltrane) - Weirdly, John Coltrane has come up a lot recently.  Once during a trivia night, and then also in a show called "Miles and Coltrane" that played here in Charlotte.  He's from NC, so I figured this remastered/reissue was as good a time as any to get acquainted with his music.  So far I'm digging it!

19.  Haunt Me (Twin Temple) - This duo performed on the "Daily Show" recently and I was hooked.  With Shooter Jennings producing, seems like a can't miss album!

20.  You Got to Lose (the Black Keys) - Gritty garage rock from established band!

21.  Have You Ever Seen the Rain? (Bonnie Tyler) - Oh, it hurt my heart to see Bonnie Tyler passed away last month.  She's best known for "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero", but I've always loved her cover of this Creedence Clearwater Revival classic.  RIP.

22.  Deportee /Plane Wreck at Los Gatos/ (Margo Price with Joan Baez) - Another great cover!  Margo Price and folk royalty Joan Baez cover a 1948 Woody Guthrie composition.  Sadly it's as relevant today as it was 80 years ago.  

So that's what we've got for August and September.  Here's hoping life settles down and that I can get October's playlist out on time.  Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Brant's July 2026 Playlist

 

Upon refection (see what I did there?), perhaps we should
have gone with Nikki Haley or Kamala Harris for President...

America's 250th year, and it seems more like a stint in purgatory.  Nobody's ready to pull the plug on our country but it's fair to say the mood is not exactly celebratory!  This month's list dials back the dance tunes of last month, but hopefully isn't serving funeral dirges.  There are a lot of returning favorites - basically aural comfort food!  Seems like it also skews retro (maybe the 1960s?).  Anyway, to listen on Spotify, click HERE.  Enjoy!

1.  High Hopes 3000 (Role Model) - Our first returning fave!  I'm getting T. Rex vibes here, which is a perfect fit for Role Model's jaunty delivery.

2.  Against the Grain (Julianna Riolino) - Young Canadian singer/songwriter keeps the retro feels coming with this alt country ditty. 

3.  Crumb (Prima Queen) - Indie UK duo delivers some sunny pop vibes perfect for summer.

4.  Rain Dance (Matt Jaffe) - San Francisco artist sounds like a quirky 80s band from your favorite mixtape!

5.  Hoops (Milk & Bone feat. Chromeo) - They had me at Chromeo, but this Canadian band's tantalizing vocals only sweeten the pot! 

6.  I Can Take the Sun Out of the Sky (Brigitte Calls Me Baby) - Another great song from Chicago band's latest release! 

7.  Rain (Dagny) - Dagny has been on multiple Brantworld playlists, but this new album is the closest I can recall to her doing full-on dance music!  Viva Disco Dagny!!!  

8.  Body Talk (Mr. Fantasy) - Gary turned me on to this guy!  Jamiroquai-influenced dance pop from the artist who may or may not be KJ Apa.

9.  Friends Again (Baby Rose & Leon Thomas) - Slinky R&B as hot as the July nights!

10.  America (Charley Crockett) - I was looking for a USA themed song for this month that wasn't too tone-deaf or jingoistic.  Charley to the rescue! 

11.  What Kind of Man Are You (Genya Ravan) - I have been on a Genya Ravan kick lately!  How did I miss her first time around???  Anyway, this is an early song of hers after she left Goldie & the Gingerbreads.  I HIGHLY encourage people to check her out! 

12.  Broke Bitch Boogie (Baby Nova) - Definitely 1960s vibes with a 2020's edge!  

13.  Meet the New Swamp (Jesse Welles) - Upbeat folk-rock from critically acclaimed singer-songwriter.

14.  Back in Your Red Chevy (Holly Humberstone) - Sometimes a stripped-down version of a song really adds to the emotional resonance.  Case in point... 

15.  Audrey Hepburn (Maisie Peters) - We last had this English artist on our February 2024 playlist, and now she's back!  

16.  Freaking Out (Michigander) - Another Brantworld listee returns! 

17.  My Body Isn't Ready (sombr) - At this point, Grammy-nominated sombr needs no introduction, and it's good to hear new music from him! 

18.  Anywhere But On My Mind (lovelytheband) - The latest from West Coast US band! 

19.  The Best (Conan Gray) - A personal fave of mine whose songwriting never fails to resonate.  

20. When That Man Is Dead and Gone (Lizzy & the Triggermen) - This was originally written about Hitler, so it certainly couldn't apply to anyone today!

Brant's June 2026 Playlist

There ain't no cure for the summertime blues!  
Fortunately we have our Emotional Support Alien - and a new playlist!  

Another month, another playlist!  June is Pride month, so I went heavy on the dance tracks and remixes, but threw in the usual mix of other finds!  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Virgin Heartbreak (Baby Nova) - Indie singer from Nova Scotia with a song about what the gays do best - survival! 

2.   Sex, Drugs and Existential Dread (Chloe Qisha) - This is from 2025, but seemed apropos given today's political climate!

3.  Opalite /Chris Lake Remix/ (Taylor Swift) - This was a song I never really noticed until the remix.  I love how Lake took it to a darker place!  

4.  I Danced with Another Love in My Dream (Brigitte Calls Me Baby) - We last had them on our December 2023 playlist!  Love the 80s vibes I'm getting - perhaps Talk Talk meets Psychedelic Furs?

5.  allofthat (ELIO) - Easygoing pop in the style of Holly Humberstone or Kacey Musgraves.

6.  Already There (Young the Giant) - Wistful emo from frequent Brantworld listee.

7.  All Too Well (Ruston Kelly) - Obviously nothing compares to Taylor's version, but I'm digging the bluesy, folk-rock vulnerability!  It's always fun to hear someone interpret a well-known tune.  

8.  We Better Get Packed (Ike Reilly & Shane Reilly) - Established rocker introduces his son to the world!  Me likey!

9.  Phone Sick (Tommy Newport) - Uplifting pop/rock anthem from Kansas singer/songwriter.

10.  Empty Little Room (Amanda Anne Platt & the Honeycutters) - My fraternity brother Steve recommended this Asheville group to me, and he lives in Colorado!  Clearly I haven't been paying attention!

11.  Waiting (Beth Orton) - Wow!  I'm not sure I would've recognized this as Beth Orton if I'd just heard it on the radio!  Her voice has changed, but her songwriting prowess is strong as ever.  It's good to have her back!

12.  Hang the Ragga DJ /Royal Fun Flip/ (the Smiths) - Who would've thought to put a reggae spin on the Smiths???  Not me, but it works.  This one is not on Spotify but you can find it on Bandcamp.

13.  Lisa Never Wanted to Be Famous (Cory Wong feat. Theo Katzman) - Jazzy vibes perfect for summer sunsets.  I may have to start paying more attention to this Grammy nominated composer!  

14.  Longer Days (Aaron Childs) - Sunny, mellow soul from West Coast artist.  

15.  Hot Line (the Sylvers) - Foster Sylvers just passed away last month, so I wanted to add a song from The Sylvers.  It's easy to hear the Jackson 5 influence, but when the songs are this catchy you can't be upset about it!  

16.  Sick of It (Rat Boy) - English punk rocker is back and hasn't mellowed one little bit (yay!).  

17.  Hate to be the One (Izzy Escobar) - Retro vibes that bring Amy Winehouse and the classic girl groups of the 1960s to mind. 

18.  Hide (Neal Francis) - Another welcome return!  Francis takes all the best elements of disco and psychedelic rock and combines them into one glorious aural package.  

19.  That's When You Know (Kygo feat. Carter Faith) - I love the country twist on Kygo's signature electronica!  I can't think of a single time when putting a country singer (Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton) on a dance track hasn't worked!  More of this, please!!! 

20.  DANCE... (Slayyyter) - Angsty, spooky dance ditty from Indie artist who apparently just killed it at Coachella!  

21.  Closet Disco Queen (Dagny) -  Not to be confused with Leon Russell's "Crystal Closet Queen" (which is equally awesome), frequent Brantworld listee serves up some bizarre Euro dance vibes.  Very different from her other stuff, but it's growing on me!

Brant's May 2026 Playlist

I like to call this one "Doctor on a Dinosaur". 

May is here, and we've got a new playlist just in time for the weekend!  In anticipation of Pride next month, we've got Lady Gaga (with Doechii!) AND Madonna (with Sabrina Carpenter!).  We've also got new stuff from returning faves, and waterfowl in the singular AND plural!  Hope you enjoy.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Having You Around (yardsale) - So apparently there are several bands with this name or very similar.  This particular one is a trio of guys.  Anyway, it had an easygoing summer vibe that felt appropriate to kick things off!  

2.  Drunk Dialing (Holly Humberstone) - Another track off Holly's new album!  

3.  Madalena (Goose) - Some of my fraternity brothers turned me on to this band!  Very much a Jackson Browne vibe here that I'm digging.  It's also the first of our singular/plural waterfowl! 

4.  Kentucky Too Long (Charley Crockett) - The latest from frequent Brantworld listee continues his old-school country immersion!  

5.  Let Me Take You Out Tonight (Marc Broussard) - I just caught Marc this week in concert and he was fantastic.  He describes his music as Bayou Soul, which seems pretty accurate.  I'm getting Leon Russell, BB King, and even a dash of Brian Setzer!  Catch him if he comes to your town!

6.  Tiny Raisin (Suki Waterhouse) - English singer-songwriter has a new album coming out, and I can't wait!  Energetic and youthful pop rock to get you on your feet!

7.  Sunshine State (Pixey) - Another frequent listee who never disappoints!  

8.  Runway (Lady Gaga & Doechii) - This is from the new Devil Wears Prada sequel.  I'm a tad apprehensive about the movie, but happily endorse this dance floor strutter!  

9.  Sophie (Haute & Freddy) - My love of this new band continues unabated!  

10.  Save My Love (Kygo feat. Khalid and Gryffin) - Peppy collaboration to get your summer celebrations going! 

11.  Bring Your Love (Madonna & Sabrina Carpenter) - Power Pairing from two gay icons!  Will it give Madge the comeback she's striving for?  TBD...  

12.  Love Ain't Sh*t (Jai'Len Josey) - Bold and blunt R&B from Atlanta artist.

13.  Madwoman (Laufey) - Come for the groovy music, stay for the Hudson Williams video! 

14.  Cobra (Geese) - The second of our goose/geese offerings!  These guys (completely unrelated to Goose) feature singer Cameron Winter and his unique vocal stylings.  Their music veers from quirky to just bizarre, but I did like this one.    

15.  Virginia Slim /from the Garage/ (Laufey) - Acoustic version of the single from her debut album.  

16.  A Little Bit of Your Love (Doris Duke) - This was on a disco box set I recently bought.  I'd never heard this 1975 single, but love the classic soul influences on display here.  

17.  Carol (the Eagles) - Also from 1975, this is from the Deluxe Edition of the "One of These Nights" album.  The Eagles cover Chuck Berry, and do a great job with it!

18.  Door (Conan Gray) - Speaking of Deluxe Editions, Conan just released Wishbone Deluxe.  I can't get enough of this bonus track, written while he was touring last year.  He's also another great artist to catch if he comes to your town!

19.  Sunlight to My Soul (Angelique Kidjo with Soweto Gospel Choir) - Sunny, exotic and happy vibes to close us out for May!

Brant's April 2026 Playlist

Oh, you know...just killin' time and trying to stay away from the pollen!

Okay, I need to start checking the dates of some of these songs I'm finding.  I try to stick with stuff that's come out in the last 12 months, but as I was putting some of this list together I noticed I had songs from 2022, 2024, etc.  My bad.  Maybe the pollen is affecting my judgement.  Anyway, I did get April's list done a skootch early, so hope you enjoy.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Shy Girl (Haute & Freddy) - One of my favorite new bands kicks us off with more of their 80s-inspired synthpop! 

2.  mangetout  /The Dare Remix/ (Wet Leg) - I never would've put these two together, but this remix is fire!!! 

3.  Dance No More (Harry Styles) - I know "Aperture" is his hot new single, but personally I gravitated towards this funky number on his new album.  

4.  Gentleman Blue (Elysia Biro) - Google says she is a "forest nymph masquerading as a singer-songwriter"!  All I know is that I'm loving the jazzy Steely Dan vibes!  

5.  Bedroom Posters (Yellowcard with Good Charlotte) - Florida band gets an assist from early 00s rockers.

6.  Love You All the Same (Dominic Wright) - Catchy pop from Indie singer/songwriter

7.  Spin (OTNES) - Spotify suggested this to me and I immediately saved it before realizing it was from 2022.  Anyway, it's dreamy pop from a Midwestern US artist.  

8.  Other Side (Brent Faiyaz) - I thought this was The Weeknd when I first heard it!  Mid-tempo R&B to get your toes tappin'!

9.  Western Wind (Carly Rae Jepsen) - Another oldie of sorts (also from 2022!).  At first I thought Carly was moving into her "Taylor Swift" phase, but now...who knows?  We need some new music from Carly! I guess the new baby is taking up a lot of her time these days.  

10.  Passenger Seat (Wolf Alice) - Feel good folk-rock from English band. 

11.  Country Sour (Witch Post) - I love hearing these two sing together!  

12.  Hell Without the Flames (Josiah & the Bonnevilles) - It kinda feels like we're all in Hell without the flames these days, but I promised myself I wouldn't get into politics for this playlist!  

13.  Adam (Lotte Gallagher) - One of those songs you want to crank while driving down the highway!  

14.  Blame It on the Moon (Cory Wong with Magic City Hippies) - We last had Cory on our February 2024 playlist but this funky new song is a welcome return!  

15.  Dancing on the Wall (MUNA) -  I've been hearing this a lot on the radio, and never get tired of it!  The latest from this Indie pop trio.  

16.  To Love Somebody (Holly Humberstone) - My friend Zach used a Humberstone song in one of his posts, which reminded me she had a new album out!  I gravitated towards this gloriously resilient, sunny pop tune from the English singer/songwriter.

17.  100 Summers (Rainbow Kitten Surprise) - NC band was on our December 2025 playlist.  This is from the same album - great Southern alt rock.  

18.  Alabama (Caroline Kingsbury) - US pop artist whose visual aesthetic meshes well with Chappell Roan and Haute & Freddy!  This sounds like a Sam Fender song with female vocals - and I mean that as a compliment!

19.  Crimes of Passion (St. Lucia) - Brooklyn band and frequent Brantworld listees close us out with some anthemic dance-pop!

Brant's February/March 2026 Playlist

This puppy I got at the Netflix yard sale has
proven to be UNTRAINABLE! 

Late again!  Maybe I should go to quarterly playlists instead of monthly.  This one is so late I'm just calling it February/March.  Life has gotten so hectic and stressful -  we've had two back-to-back winter storms, costs are going up, income is going down.  By the time I get home I just want to curl up in a ball on the couch.  I did finally pull some songs together - I'm just working at a decreased capacity these days.  It's a little bit of everything.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.  

1.  Don't Include Me {American Dream} (Michael Marcagi) - Cinncinati singer/songwriter kicks us off with some melancholy folk/rock.  

2.  Water Underground (Real Estate) - We last had them on our May 2020 playlist, and now this Indie band is back with more glorious retro stylings!  This is evoking memories of Simon & Garfunkel, the Byrds, and other 1960s bands.  

3.  Florida Man (Gatlin) - Female singer/songwriter has been dropping songs for a few years now, but this is from her first proper album.  Can't wait to hear more from her! 

4.  Lucky Again (Lykke Li) - The latest from Swedish pop star!  

5.  Dance the Pain Away (Haute & Freddy) - This duo has written for everyone from Katy Perry to Britney Spears.  Now they've struck out on their own with some deliciously eccentric 80's-styled dance pop.  

6.  things u h8 abt me (Squid the Kid) - Enigmatic young hip hop artist returns with some funky pop to keep you on the dance floor. 

7.  Devotion (SG Lewis & TEED) - Another selection from this English artist/producer's latest album.  In case you were wondering (I was!) - TEED stands for Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs! 

8.  Delulu (KiiKii) - I love me some K-pop!  This girl group made their debut last year and totally delivered the happy K-pop sound I've come to enjoy.

9.  Liftin' Me Up (Jill Scott) - The queen is back!!!  Rejoice! 

10.  Post Sex Clarity (Lola Young) - Well-deserved Grammy winner is back with more of her signature confessional pop!

11.  I've Got a Broken Heart (the Lemon Twigs) - Another group I enjoyed in 2020 returns with this catchy tune!  

12.  Chimera (the Alarm) - I knew this group mostly from the song "68 Guns", and was pleasantly surprised to see they had a new song out.  Unfortunately lead singer Mike Peters died soon after the song was recorded - so the future of the band seems uncertain at best.  It's still a great finale for a great band.  

13.  Talk to Me Baby (the Bluetonics) - European (I'm guessing Swedish?) trio serves up some bluesy Americana! 

14.  I Don't Want to Go Home (Kita Alexander) - Australian singer/songwriter has a knack for catchy melodies and singalong choruses.  

15.  Dirty Work (King Princess) - Unexpected Steely Dan cover by Brooklyn artist. 

16.  Heavy Foot (Mon Rovîa) - Liberian artist known for blending "Afro-Apppalachian folk with Americana". 

17.  Lonely Night (Trousdale) - We had them on last March's playlist, and now this Country-Pop band is back with more beautiful harmonies. 

18.  I Kinda Like That (Laundry Day) - I'm getting Weezer vibes from this NYC band, and not mad about it! 

19.  Cute Aggression (Perrie) - Another endearing selection from former Little Mix singer's solo album. 

20.  I'm Not Going Anywhere (Morgana) - Haunting vocals over driving electronic beats from Irish singer/songwriter.  I can totally hear a Kate Bush influence.  

21.  Starlight (Sumner) - Australian duo closes us out with some upbeat pop!  

So that's our February/March playlist!  Hopefully I'll be back on schedule by April.  See you then! 

Brant's January 2026 Playlist

Happy New Year?  I'm not convinced.  But thank you!

Whoa.  We actually made it through 2025.  People keep saying "Happy New Year" and all I can think is, that seems optimistic.  Personally - my health insurance premiums have tripled, I've got friends getting laid off from their jobs left & right, and groceries are as expensive as ever.  But sure - happy new year.  At least we have some new music to enjoy!  It seems country-tinged to me, but I'll let you decide.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Lose It Again (Hatchie) - We last had her on my June 2022 playlist, and I forgot how much I like her!  Australian singer kicks off our first song of the New Year!

2.  Wantin' Woman (Free Arlo) - Singer/Songwriter Chance Famighetti is bringing Role Model/the Eagles vibes, and me likey!  

3.  d£aler (Lola Young) - British singer/songwriter's latest offering is some toe-tapping escapism with her usual bluntness! 

4. Whiskey Cherry (Clover County) - Frequent Brantworld listee from Athens, GA never disappoints with her heartfelt folk-rock.   

5.  Cherry Reds (Amber Mark) - Did someone say "cherry"?  More good vibes from another fave of mine!

6.  Canal Street (sombr) - An unexpected ballad from one of my favorite new artists (and now a Grammy nominee!).  

7.  Barcelona (Rikas) - We had a Roosevelt remix from them last month, so I was curious to hear more from this German band.  It has a yacht rock/Dire Straits energy to my ears.  

8.  Moody (Royel Otis) - Funky Indie Pop from Australian duo.

9.  If He Wanted To He Would (Perrie) - Little Mix singer goes solo with this powerhouse pop anthem that reminds me of the stuff we'd hear from Shania Twain/Faith Hill in the late-90s! 

10.  Fireworks (Joseph) - More high-energy country from Portland, Oregon trio of sisters.

11.  Keep the Fire Burning /UK Club Mix/ (Gwen McCrae) - Sadly we lost her in 2025, but with soulful grooves like this one (and her biggest hit "Rockin' Chair"), Gwen will never be forgotten.  RIP

12.  Illegal (PinkPantheress feat. Seventeen) - Frenetic beats and slinky vocals from up-and-coming young artist, with an assist from K-pop boy band.  

13.  Baby Blue (SG Lewis with Oliver Sim)  - SG Lewis serves up his trademark soaring beats and XX member Oliver Sim perfectly compliments them with his gorgeous vocals.  

14.  Call Me After Midnight (Bleachers) - With Max Martin producing Taylor Swift's new album, I guess Jack Antonoff had time to return to his own musical output!  This was a nice R&B-influenced selection from the new album. 

15.  Right on Time /RKR Funk Remix/ (Leela James feat. Kincy) - Not many people do modern R&B better than Leela James.  Case in point... 

16.  It Might Have to Be You (Vulfmon feat. Evangeline) - Easygoing jazz from West Coast artist.

17.  Sewers (mehro) - Beatle-esque ballad from another LA artist we've featured previously.

18.  Dearest Madeleine /Dry Season Rhythm/ (Viren Neel feat. Claire Wright) - Trinidadian artist closes us out with some Islandy vibes to warm us up during this chilly winter weather!

Brant's December 2025 Playlist

Here's hoping the rest of this godforsaken year flies by... 

Phew.  It's been a rough couple of months.  Halloween fell apart.  Despite my best efforts, I ended up catching the flu and missing the entire season.  That really sucked.  Then work pushed into high gear and has remained there.  As a result, there was no November playlist, and if not for the Thanksgiving weekend there probably wouldn't have been a December playlist either.  So here we go!  We've got new Roosevelt (yay!) some returning faves, and one or two new artists to check out.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.  Enjoy, and let's hope 2026 is less intense.  I am fried.    

1.  Bike in L.A. /Roosevelt Remix/ (Rikas) - Roosevelt works his disco magic on Stuttgart band's easygoing alt-rock offering.  German synergy at its best! 

2.  See Me Loving You (the High Points with Louis La Roche) - UK soul to keep the beats going.

3.  Love in the Middle (Kevin Ross) - US R&B singer's latest offering. 

4.  Actor (Conan Gray) - I've been on a Conan Gray kick all year (did you catch him at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade???) so why not finish out 2025 with one of my favorite new(ish) artists!  

5.  Jupiter (Dagny) - Norwegian pop goddess goes minimalist and is kinda giving me Imogen Heap vibes!  

6.  Sad & Beautiful World (Mavis Staples) - Mavis is a national treasure.  End of discussion.  

7.  If I Never Get to Heaven (Ledisi) - I think one of my favorite things about tribute albums is that they always lift up a song I didn't know.  On her tribute to Dinah Washington, Ledisi highlights this tune.  Great artists + great song = great listen.  

8.  Talk to You (Sam Fender feat. Elton John) - This is a bonus track off Sam Fender's latest album!  I didn't realize Elton was his mentor, but the piano assist is a lovely addition.  Comfort food for your ears. 

9.  Kids Table (Bright Eyes with Hurray For The Riff Raff) - This is probably as close as I'll get to a holiday song!  But I did always enjoy sitting with my cousins at the kids table for family get-togethers.  

10.  Make Me Forget (LANY) - Frequent Brantworld listees are back with more delicious dream pop.  

11.  The Wolf (Witch Post) - Electrifying duo serves up some vibrant alt-rock on their debut album!  Can't wait to hear more from them! 

12.  Wildflowers and Wine (Jessie Murph) - This is a bonus track from her "Sex Hysteria" album.   I'm #obsessed

13.  Maybe It's Me (the Strumbellas) - We had this Canadian band on our last playlist, so it was a no-brainer to drop this tune from their latest EP onto December's list!  

14.  Dang (Rainbow Kitten Surprise) - It's always nice to be able to feature bands from my home state!  This NC Indie band is doing well with their latest ditty!

15.  12 to 12 (sombr) - Another of my fave new artists  is killing it with his latest album.  Here's another hit from the young New Yorker. 

16.  Comin' to You (Kishi Bashi) - This almost sounds like a Beach Boys tune put into an AI remixer!  Anyhoo - I like it!  

17.  Diamonds (Leisure) - New Zealand band's latest mid-tempo dance pop offering.  

18.  Returning to Myself (Brandi Carlile) - Brandi has been hanging with Joni Mitchell and I can totally hear the influence!  A gorgeous acoustic ballad to close us out.

1.  She Got the Moon (Berry Juice feat. Deirdre) - No word on if Berry Juice is related to Beetlejuice, but I dug the spooky, nighttime vibes of this song and figured it was a nice way to start us off! 

2.  Software (Hotel Apache) - Is New Jack Swing making a comeback???  [See also - Sabrina Carpenter's "House Tour"]  I'd be fine with that!  

3.  In Plain Sight (Khalid) - Frequent Brantworld listee is back with some danceable pop.

4.  Little By Little (Nicholas Cangiano) - Canadian singer/songwriter serves up some slinky soul!

5.  Skin of My Teeth (the Strumbellas) - More glorious music from our friends up North!  We've had the Strumbellas on two previous playlists, and I always love their retro 60's garage band stylings!  

6.  1st World Blues (Bright Eyes) - Two things I love (Conor Oberst & ska) come together in one glorious package!  The pointed lyrics are especially relevant these days.  

7.  That Old Black Magic (Keely Smith & Louis Prima) - A mid-century classic that's perfect for Halloween cocktails!  Can't believe I haven't put this on previous playlists! 

8.  Let's Dream in the Moonlight (Laufey) - One of my fave new artists covers Billie Holiday?!?  Yes, please!

9.  Vampire Bat (Glass Animals) - Groovy Indie rock with a Halloween slant!

10.  Chambermaid (Suzanne Vega) - Some songwriters just live within my DNA.  Suzanne Vega is one of them.  Since her debut album in 1985, I have adored this woman.  What a treat to have her drop a new album!  This tribute to Bob Marley was a standout for me.  

11.  Ain't As Pretty a Blue (Fleeland) - More comforting acoustic folk.  I couldn't find out much about this band, but hopefully we'll be hearing more from them.

12.  The Cut That Always Bleeds /Live/ (Conan Gray) - I saw Conan last week!  This live track absolutely captures the vibe - EVERYONE was singing along.  This kid has some serious vocal range, too.  Catch him if he comes to your town!

13.  My Only Angel (Aerosmith & YUNGBLUD) - Aerosmith is NOT afraid to team up with some young 'uns, and the results are always fantabulous!  First Run DMC in the 1980s - now YUNGBLUD.  Great musical synergy by two great artists.    

14.  Space Between Us (Franc Moody) - I'm getting ELO vibes from this UK band in all the best ways.  

15.  The Bellboy /One Last Crush/ (Suki Waterhouse) - Atmospheric rock ballad from UK artist and frequent Brantworld listee.  Back in the day we would've lit our lighters and swayed to the music as she sang this on stage!

16.  Na$ty (Kirby) - Funky R&B with a message!  "Memphis-born, Mississippi-bred" singer/songwriter has penned tunes for everyone from Ariana Grande to Kanye West!  

17.  Ramblin' Jones (Whiskey Myers) - Texas band keeps the Southern funk vibe going!

18.  All Around Cowboy (Charley Crockett) - We had him on last month's playlist, and I'm still enjoying Charley's latest album!  Here's another fave pick.  

19.  Unholy /Disclosure Remix/ (Sam Smith & Kim Petras) - This got overplayed in the clubs when it was released, but it makes a lovely addition to any Halloween party playlist! 

20.  After Dark (Pattie Brooks) - Far be it for me to neglect to add a disco tune to any party playlist!  It's not exactly a Halloween song, but the themes are definitely Halloween-adjacent.  And with a driving beat such as this, do we really care???

Brant's September 2025 Playlist

I'M MAKING PLAYLISTS GREAT AGAIN!!!  EVERYONE SAYS SO.   
PEOPLE CAN'T STOP TALKING ABOUT IT! 

With the holiday weekend already underway, I decided to put September's playlist out early.  I leaned into the rock stuff, but there's a little bit of everything.  Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Paint a Picture (the Hives) - I didn't realize how much I missed these guys until their new album came out.  If there were ever a time we needed rebellious rock-n-roll, I'd say it's now.  As Paste Magazine so eloquently says:  "As the United States' plunge into mouth-breathing Christofascist authoritarianism, both inevitable and ahead of schedule against expectation, caps off a worldwide embrace of strongman leadership buttressed by crony morons and fueled by subcultures whose loudest voices are only in the game to profit from oppression, cruelty, and hatred - a full-throated 'fuck you' is required."

2.  Balcony (Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers) - And the award for Best Band Name goes to... They also serve up some energizing punk rock!  

3.  I Wish I Knew How to Quit You (Sombr) - Young up and comer, featured in June's playlist, has dropped a full album!  He's definitely one to watch moving forward.  

4.  Take a Sexy Picture of Me (CMAT) - My friend Tyler actually mentioned this song to me weeks ago.  I made a mental note but didn't follow up and actually listen to the song until recently.  Should've known I'd grow to love it!  I'd had CMAT on my April 2022 playlist, but she had slipped off my radar.  The lesson is:  Surround yourself with people who have great taste in music.  They'll keep you on track even when you get distracted! 

5.  Twin Flame (the Aces) - Catchy pop rock from reliable Indie band.  

6.  Supersonic Love Divine (Paavo with Billy Vena) - The best comeback song Justin Timberlake never released!  

7.  Cinnamon Light /Desert Fire Mix/ (Alison Goldfrapp) - Hard to believe it's been 20 years since "Supernature" came out!  Goldfrapp continues to release great EDM to this day.  

8.  Some of My Best Friends Are the Blues (Melissa Morgan) - I recently caught Melissa Morgan in concert.  She opened with this great number, and I knew it would be a fantabulous night.  It's nice to see jazz is still thriving in certain circles.  

9.  The Question (Balu Brigada) - New Zealand Indie rockers are still going strong!  This is from their sophomore album, "Portal".  

10.  Castle in Hollywood (Laufey) - More jazzy vibes from frequent Brantworld listee.  

11.  Cudn't Be Me (Jessie Reyez) - This Canadian singer/songwriter is becoming one of my go-to's for great R&B.  

12.  Old School Love (Easy Freak) - South African duo has definitely studied at the School of Nile Rodgers, and I'm here for it!  Summery R&B disco.  

13.  Lighthouse (Tim Atlas & NoMBe) - Easygoing jazzy house perfect for late-night relaxing and cocktails.  

14.  Waiting to Love You (Ruston Kelly) - Kacey Musgraves' husband is a fantastic singer/songwriter on his own!  Check him out if you haven't already.  

15.  Crucified Son (Charley Crockett) - Worth buying for the album cover alone (I told a fraternity brother he looks like a recurring villain on "Dukes of Hazzard"!) - but the Southern country rock is on point as well!  

16.  Los Angeles (Big Thief) - Warm, acoustic folk that surrounds you like a hug.  

17.  Caramel (Conan Gray) - The latest from American pop singer!  Can't wait to see him in concert this month! 

18.  Blurry Lights (Ax & the Hatchetmen feat. Albert Hammond Jr) - Chicago rockers team up with a member of the Strokes for this headbanging ditty!  

19.  Bloodline (Truman Sinclair) - Old school Bob Dylan-styled folk/rock from young singer/songwriter. 

20.  The Actor (Willow Avalon) - We last had this Georgia singer/songwriter on last March's playlist!  She was recently named one of the Top Artists to Watch 2025 by "The Tennessean".  

21.  Night & Day (DUX feat. Stan Taylor) - I don't know much about this artist, but I love the Micheal Jackson circa "Off the Wall" years vibe!

These "kiss cams" are adding a whole new element of risk to concert-going!

1.  All My Life (Duke Dumont & Panama) - This is sure to pop up on some summer festival DJ playlists in the next few months!  

2.  Ring, Ring, Ring (Tyler, the Creator) - Tyler, the Creator skews a bit retro with this fun hip hop offering.  Sounds like something New Edition might've done back in the day!

3.  Sun /summer version/ (Derik Fein) - Funky pop rock from Nashville singer-songwriter.

4.  Ghost Town (Purple Disco Machine feat. Retrosonix) - Purple Disco Machine never disappoints!  Unapologetic neo-disco with powerhouse vocals!  

5.  Jeans (Jessie Reyez feat. Miguel) - Last seen on Brantworld's March 2020 playlist, this Canadian chanteuse teams up with R&B star Miguel for a lighthearted love song.  

6.  Touch Me Like a Gangster (Jessie Murph) - Zach turned me on to this artist! I'm definitely getting Elle King vibes from her!  Can't wait to see what's next for this promising young singer. 

7.  Favorite Thing (Nathan Farrell feat. Lawrence) - What's more summery than East Coast beach music?  Timeless soul from NYC artist.  

8.  The Subway (Chappell Roan) - Just dropped today!!!  Slightly emo new single from pop music's "It" girl!  

9.  Vodka Cranberry (Conan Gray) - I just got my tickets for Conan's upcoming concert in Charlotte!  Can't wait to see him live.  

10.  Crystal Tears (Janne Schra) - Easygoing folk-rock from Dutch artist.

11.  The Longest Goodbye (Role Model feat. Laufey) - Two of my favorite young artists team up for this ragtime-adjacent saloon tune. 

12.  Lookin' at You, I Forgot (Rachael & Vilray) - Breezy jazz from NYC duo. 

13.  Real Thing (Drugdealer & Weyes Blood) - Lordy I love this woman's voice.  I caught her show last year and she sounds just as good in person.  This perfectly suited song sounds like Karen Carpenter singing a Carole King classic.  

14.  Fire for You /midnight version/ (Cannons) - This is from 2019, but seems like I heard it somewhere and immediately Shazam'd it.  Perfect for slow dancing at the prom (if you're in the appropriate age group to be doing that, which I'm not!). 

15.  Don't Speak (Wet Leg) - I'm still grooving to Wet Leg's latest album!!!  Check it out if you haven't already.  

16.  Crazy Train (Ozzy Osbourne) - I don't think it was possible to be a teenager in the 1980s and not hear this song.  Hard to believe Ozzy is gone.  RIP.

17.  New Walk New Talk (Noel Gourdin) - Classic R&B from Boston artist. 

18.  Lover Girl (Laufey) - Two Laufey songs on one playlist???  You're welcome.  This one is definitely more bossa nova than "The Longest Goodbye" (#11), but I love them both!  

19.  Nausicaä (Cameron Winter) - I saw this artist on a recent "Best of 2025" list, so decided to check him out.  It's certainly unconventional - somewhere in Rufus Wainwright and Tom Waits territory - but I like it! 

20.  Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come /Roosevelt Remix/ (the Wombats) - Another unexpected pairing of artists that I was excited to see (and hear!).  

21.  21. Night of May /Roisto Remix/ (Juicy Lemon Club) - I figured we'd end on some more dance/funk.  This Swiss band totally fit the bill!

When escapism is the only thing keeping you going... 

Welp, today a lot of people's worst nightmare came true as Trump and his goons pushed the "Big Beautiful Bill" through.  More people of color will get deported, nearly 12 million Americans will lose their health insurance, and the national debt will increase by about $3 trillion.  But at least corporations will get tax cuts!  Anyway, this month's playlist was built with escapism and summer in mind.  We've got some calypso, some reggae, bossa nova and anything else designed to take your mind off current events.  Hope you enjoy.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

10.  Oh So Close, Yet So Far (Shannon & the Clams) - I first heard this band on the soundtrack to something I was watching, and immediately gravitated to their 1960s garage band vibes!

11.  Shapeshifter (Lorde) - Lorde is back and the emo gays rejoice (as well they should!). 

12.  Skanking Loud (Fatbabs) - Fun reggae from Grammy nominated French artist. 

13.  Suzanne (Mark Ronson & RAYE) - The man who actually made Bruno Mars listenable is back with this tasty new offering!  

14.  Los Angeles (Cal in Red) - Easygoing pop/rock from Michigan duo. 

15.  Family Affair (Sly & the Family Stone) - It's hard to imagine someone whose influence on music was greater - Sly Stone played Woodstock AND the Harlem Cultural Festival in 1969, reaching fans across every genre and cultural heritage.  His band, the Family Stone, was a walking argument for DEI hires!  This racially integrated, mixed gender band could funk out with the best of them.  They would go on to sell millions of records and influence artists from Maroon 5 to Prince.  Sly and the Family Stone were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.  Sly may be gone, but his music will "Stand!" forever.  This is one of my fave Sly Stone tunes.  RIP 

16.  Catching Feelings (Cerrone & Christine and the Queens) - Unexpected pairing of a disco legend and French singer/songwriter!  

17.  Cowboy Killers (Solo Kei) - Breezy Indie pop perfect for cruising down the highway with the windows open (or I guess maybe on horseback since he's singing about cowboys!). 

18.  Sound & Light (Alison Goldfrapp) - Josh happily messaged me to let me know we had new Goldfrapp!  Can't wait for the new album, but this will do nicely in the meantime.  

19.  I Couldn't Sleep (Laura Stevenson) - I'm getting Waxahatchee and Nanci Griffith vibes from this Long Island singer/songwriter!  

20.  Something Cool (June Christy) - Hard to believe it's been 35 years since June Christy passed.  Sadly she really wasn't on my radar until recently.  Anyway, this seemed like a nice song to end July's playlist with - there's nothing like something cool on a summer evening, and nobody was cooler when it came to mid-century jazz!

Who's ready for some summer road trips???

No man is an island, so this month's playlist is loaded with songs other people have turned me on to!  I spent some time in the mountains with fraternity brothers, and some time at the beach with another friend.  As always - music was a big part of the experience.  Expect some Pride tunes for June, lots of classic rock and a few returning faves.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Breakin' (Dexter & the Moonrocks) - We had these guys on last July's playlist, so why not get the summer's playlist going with this awesome Texas Indie band? 

2.  Undressed (sombr) - Handsome NY singer/songwriter has a slight 1960s influence that I'm digging. 

3.  Gunslinger (Natalie Bergman) - West Coast artist keeps the 60s sounds going and seems to be conjuring up visions of Nancy Sinatra in a spaghetti Western movie!  

4.  Cherry Bomb (Pixey with JD Cliffe) - Frequent Brantworld listee is back with this hip hop/dreampop offering. 

5.  Shock Treatment (Caroline Kingsbury) - I can't remember where I first saw her - but I was immediately drawn to Kingbury's aesthetic!  Imagine Chappell Roan with a skootch of Cyndi Lauper and perhaps Nina Hagen's edginess.  

6.  I Like (Ferris Pier with Brother Leo) - Upbeat dance pop that's perfect for rollerblading along a beachside strip (or whatever the kids are doing these days!).  

7.  Temptation (Bakermat with Elise LeGrow) - Mitch turned me on to this.  Sexy beats and powerhouse vocals!  

8.  World's Worst Girlfriend (Shura) - I forgot how much I missed this artist!  Can't wait to hear the new album!  

9.  Power of Love (Kacey Johansing) - My pledge bro Lewis put this artist on my radar.  Gorgeous vocals and minimal instrumentation.  This is from 2017.  I hope we get to hear more from her!

10.  Red Moon (Tom Misch) - Jazzy funk from British singer/songwriter.  

11.  Back It Up (Neal Francis) - Neal was already a fave of mine, so it was mostly validating and exciting to see my concert-going fraternity brother Al was also a fan!  From the pics and videos he sent me, Neal Francis is definitely worth catching if he comes to your town.  I know I intend to go! 

12.  Smalltown Boy (Bronksi Beat feat. the Knocks and Perfume Genius) - Pride offering #1 - There is no overstating how YUUUUUGE this song was when it first came out in 1984!  What a treat to find Perfume Genius and The Knocks giving it a reboot!  

13.  Bleed (Malcolm Todd feat. Omar Apollo) - Young West Coast artist got discovered on TikTok (that seems to be the primary entry point for musicians these days) and just released his first album! 

14.  Love Me Not (Ravyn Lenae feat. Rex Orange County) - Up and coming R&B chanteuse teams up with ROC for this catchy number.  

15.  Bottom of a Bottle (Julien Baker and TORRES) - Another fave song from this alt rock/country duo! 

16.  King of Possibilities (Goldie Boutilier) - Quirky LA singer/songwriter/model delivers this slinky lounge ditty.  

17.  Gild the Lily (Billy Strings) - This is another artist my fraternity bros brought to my attention.  Summery acoustic folk with a 1970s vibe!

18.  Different Kind of Lonely (Amber Burgoyne) - British jazz singer's career is just beginning, but she's off to a strong start!  

19.  Don't Speak (Loaded Honey) - Not the No Doubt song, but with islandy jazz sounds like these - who cares?  

20.  Revelation (The Knocks and Dragonette) - I've about decided that I love anything these folks put out!  Joyous dance-pop with an 80s flavor! 

21.  Enough Is Enough (KD Lang with Andy Bell) - This is an underappreciated Pride song from the 1993 Coneheads movie soundtrack!  Two greats making great music together.  Any chance we can get a 2025 remix????

I'm moving into May with the confidence of Saxon and the determination of Piper, but hoping to be a little less "hands-on" than Lochlan!

May is here and the latest season of "White Lotus" has dropped!  This month's playlist was cultivated with thoughts of summer vacations and drinks on the veranda in mind.  It seemed to have a 1960s vibe somehow to my ears, but you can decide for yourself!  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Honeycomb (Art D'ecco) - I like this guy more & more with each new album!  This tune sounds like a hybrid of Queen and T. Rex in all the best ways.  

2. Girl of the Hour (Tabitha Meeks) - Slinky go-go lounge vibes that seems like something Ann-Margret would dance to in her best cheetah-print catsuit! 

3.  January [Over and Over] (Vacation Manor) - Lynchburg, VA band delivers some dreamy Indie rock!

4.  I Would Now (Evangeline with Max Shrager) - Airy vocals and wispy slide guitar make for a perfect summer ditty from this West Coast singer/songwriter.

5.  Sugar in the Tank (Julien Baker with Torres) - One third of boygenius teams up with Indie chanteuse Torres for this soft-rock offering. 

6.  Coinstar (Runner) - Classic rock vibes from LA singer/songwriter.  

7.  It's Amazing to Be Young (Fontaines D.C.) - We last had them on our August 2024 playlist, but the Bonus Edition of their last album had this track on it - so they're back again!  This tune has a very 1980s college radio sound to it.  

8.  Dreams (the Knocks + Dragonette) - This power couple just keeps the joyous synth-pop songs coming, and I am here for it!!!  

9.  Smile (Martin Garrix feat. Carolina Liar) - This starts out like a 1960s hippie ballad and morphs into a circuit party dance anthem!  J'adore!!!  

10.  Spend My Nights (Winston Surfshirt) - A little Australian funk to keep the dance vibes going.  

11.  We Got to Hit It Off /Dimitri from Paris Liberated Women Mix/ (Millie Jackson) - Revered DJ Dimitri from Paris remixes underrated soul singer Millie Jackson's 1979 album cut!  

12.  Richardson (Shura feat. Cassandra Jenkins) - Shura is back with this slow dance ditty - just in time for prom!  

13.  Furry Sings the Blues (Kelela) - It takes a brave soul to tackle Joni Mitchell. This Washington DC singer proves she's more than up to the task!

17.  Born with a Broken Heart (Damiano David) - Måneskin frontman goes solo and shows off his amazing vocal range with this breakout hit.  

18.  Julian (Meowboys with Motherfolk) - Jubilant but empathetic garage rock from Cinncinati band.  

19.  Catch These Fists (Wet Leg) - British Indie Rock band comes out swinging with their latest tune!

Brant's April 2025 Playlist

I'm not gonna let a little pollen slow me down!

Here we are in April!  I've only seen one April Fool's post/joke so far - I think people are so stressed and exhausted just from sorting through the day-to-day misinformation that they don't see a need to generate more of it!  Anyway, we do have some new music to peruse.  This list feels more on the mellow side - probably for the same reasons as above.  Hopefully it'll be aural Xanax for a weary listener.  There are a few unexpected cover songs, new music from long-time favorites, and the typical tidbits that caught my attention.  Enjoy!  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  I Think They Call This Love (Elliot James Reay) - Whoa.  I don't know much about this kid (he's only 23!) but talk about a timeless voice!  He's just starting out, and I'll definitely be paying attention.  On this first song, he's certainly leaning into the mid-century vibe, with fantastic results! Very Elvis/Tab Hunter inspired!

2.  Somebody Else (Role Model) - Frequent listee Role Model covers The 1975!  

3.  Drift Away (the Horn) - Easygoing Indie Britpop perfect for the budding Spring weather.  

4.  But Not For Me (grentperez) - An unexpected Gershwin cover by young Australian singer.  I'd always associated this song with Judy Garland, but found this on a Chet Baker (also awesome, btw) tribute album.  

5.  Wimbledon White (slimdan) - AKA Danny Silberstein, who has previously worked with artists like Diplo, strikes out on his own with thie catchy alt-rock number!  

6.  Foolish Pleasure (the Knocks with Dragonette) - Some 80's styled synth-pop from US dance duo and their frequent collaborators Dragonette.  

7.  All in My Head (the Linda Lindas) - When they first came out with their hit "Racist Sexist Boy", I thought they might be one-hit wonders.  I'm thrilled to be wrong!  

8.  Holiday (Almost Monday) - Another frequent Brantworld listee is back with some summery Indie rock beats in anticipation of future vacations!

9.  When the Love Is Gone (Anna Graves) - I thought this was Clover County when I first heard it!  Either way, it's warm, acoustic strumming and lush vocals surround you like a much-needed, encouraging hug.  

10.  Men in Bars (Japanese Breakfast feat. Jeff Bridges) - I knew Michelle Zauner had a mercurial streak, but I never expected her to move into Classic Country!  This feels right within Tom Waits' wheelhouse, but Jeff Bridges fills in nicely for this whiskey-soaked duet.  

11.  Lovin' You (Ryan Woods) - I would never have thought Minnie Riperton's signature song would get the alt-rock treatment, but here we are!  I'm not mad about it! 

12.  No Right Time (Zaska feat. Melina Malone) - Feel-good jazz from a rotating collective of musicians headed up by Irish singer/songwriter Max Zaska.  

13.  Use My Heart Against Me (Jessica Simpson) - Looks like Japanese Breakfast isn't the only artist trying on new hats!  Early 00's pop princess belts out some roadhouse-ready blues-rock that really suits her powerful pipes! 

14.  Don't Wait (Neal Francis feat. Say She She) - Neal Francis continues to mine the 1970s music canon for inspiration, and rarely disappoints!  Even his exploration of disco, showcased here, is sublime! 

15.  Shadow of a Man (Lady Gaga) - "Abracadabra" felt like low-hanging fruit to pick for a playlist, so I delved into Gaga's latest album for a deep cut that still gets one's booty shaking!  

16.  Pop N Olive (Samara Cyn feat. Sherwyn) - Cheeky R&B from West Coast singer/rapper.  

17.  Summer Simmer (Orang Utan feat. West Rose) - This is from 2023 but I couldn't pass up its dreamy synths and soaring chorus!  

18.  Beware!!! (Sleep State) - Classic rock-styled Indie pop from West Coast duo. 

19.  Call My Name (Phin) - Breezy guitars and falsetto vocals perfect for sipping cocktails on the porch (after taking a Zyrtec, of course!)

20.  Me & Angel (Perfume Genius) - The latest from Michael Alden Hadreas continues in his gorgeous, heartfelt style to close us out on a poignant note.

Brant's March 2025 Playlist

Gettin' my green on for March!  

Phew!  Despite the Groundhog's prediction, Spring is in the air and my sinuses can feel it.  But I shall not let personal congestion interfere with my intentions to get this month's playlist out on time!  I felt myself gravitating towards folk-rock this month but as always, there's a little bit of everything.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Don't Take the Night (The Driver Era, Ross Lynch & Rocky) - Brothers and former R5 members get us started with this pulsating rock tune! 

2.  Dead Weight (Maggie Rose) - Grammy nominee known mostly for her country music proves she can also rock with the best of them!  

3.  Growing Pains (Trousdale) - Country-tinged pop band (pop-tinged Country band?) has a positive energy that will get any juke joint jumpin'! I can hear a Shania influence.   

4.  Sally, When the Wine Runs Out (Role Model) - Frequent Brantworld listee dropped a few Bonus Tracks for his latest album!  This was one of my faves.  

5.  Please, Please, Please (Sabrina Carpenter with Dolly Parton) - Sabrina is living her best life!  I've seen her sing with a few of her idols lately - Xtina, Taylor Swift, and now Dolly! 

6.  Baby Blue (Willow Avalon) - I thought this was the Bob Dylan song when I first saw the title, but it's completely different (and still great!).  I wasn't familiar with the singer, but I will have to start paying attention to her from now on!  

7.  Feel Like Makin' Love (Roberta Flack) - What a loss to the world with Roberta Flack gone.  Her music, particularly "Killing Me Softly with His Song", has become part of the fabric of American music.  RIP.

8.  Bloom (aimei) - Chinese/UK artist has a knack for catchy pop melodies.

9.  Supernova (Supertaste) - I forget where I first heard this, but (of course) I was immediately drawn to the classic disco vibes!  

10.  Poolside (Nao) - It's been a while since we've had her on one of our playlists, but Nao is back with some summery soul!

11.  Love Hangover (Jennie & Dominic Fike) - K-pop star steps out from Blackpink with this slinky bedroom bop (not to be confused with the Diana Ross song!). 

12.  Add Up My Love (Clairo) - Clairo was on our January 2025 playlist, and happily we have this new offering from her latest album!  

13.  Mona Lisa on a Mattress (Bishop Briggs) - Confident alt-rock from UK artist.

14.  One Bullet Left (Yam Haus) - Easygoing folk-rock from American Indie band.

15.  Following the Feeling (Tommy Newport) - I got a 1970s singer/songwriter vibe from this that felt perfect for the pleasant Spring weather! 

16.  Plastic Horses (Colby Acuff) - Energetic Americana from Idaho singer/songwriter.

17.  Where I Belong (Galactic with Irma Thomas) - Holy cow!  Irma Thomas is still going strong and sounding great at 84!  Yaaaaaaas, queen! 

18.  I'll Be Okay (Michigander) - We last had him on our December 2024 playlist!  Optimistic (which Lord knows we all need right now) folk-rock from Kalamazoo band.

19.  Glasgow (Pale Waves) - I love this lead singer's voice!!!  Very Cranberries/90s alt-rock vibes!

20.  Milestones (Gift) - Brooklyn band closes us out with some groovy rock!

Brant's February 2025 Playlist

Beta Testing devices to help me keep my sanity for the next 4 years... 

Welp, we're only a few weeks into the new administration and the news is chock full of catastrophes - philosophical, Constitutional, and actual.  The groundhog predicted 6 more weeks of winter, which seems like the least of our worries.  I'm a day late, but I did manage to pull together another list of songs.  Last month skewed towards folk and Indie Rock.  This month I found myself gravitating more towards Pop and Dance selections, with a lot of returning favorite artists - perhaps in hopes of improving my mood.  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  The Way She Moves (Mia Wray) - Australian pop star kicks us off with a powerfully sung dance floor filler!  

2.  Crying in the Car Wash (ARXX) - I have a good friend who uses car washes as therapy.  I thought it was just her, but now this New Wave ditty by a UK duo has me wondering if it's a "thing"! 

3.  See You in the Afterlife (Foster the People) - Some foot-stompin' funk from American Indie band. 

4.  Slut for Excel (Charlie Houston) - I don't know much about this young singer/songwriter, but this tune had a Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club energy that immediately drew me in.  

5.  MIA (Khalid feat. Chlöe) - Frequent Brantworld listee duets with one half of Chlöe x Halle for some R&B excellence.  

6.  Small Change (Don West) - Every now & again someone brings back the Motown sound.  Here's the latest - I can dig it.  

7.  Done with You (Omar Apollo) - Grammy nomimee serves up some Latin-flavored soul.  

8.  Time (Olivia Dean) - English singer adds a surprising rock-edge to this neo-soul offering. 

9.  Under the Sun (Maggie Rose) - Maryland Americana artist is currently up for a Grammy Award for her latest album, which includes this dreamy ballad. 

10.  Stolen Love (Josiah & the Bonnevilles) - They've been on my last two playlists, so clearly I've gone down the rabbit hole!  But I'm still enjoying these roots rockers.  

11.  My Fun (Suki Waterhouse) - Another returning fave!  This song has a frisky blues tinge to it that I could easily see Mick Jagger singing.  

12.  Arm's Length (Sam Fender) - His new album comes out later this month.  So far I've enjoyed all of the singles released.  

13.  Cursed Romantics (Maude LaTour) - I feel like this tune could've been inspired by Taylor Swift's "New Romantics" - but who knows?  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!  

14.  Something Beautiful (YUNG & Dagny) - Not to be confused with Yung Kook (from BTS), YUNG is a Swedish duo who have teamed up with Norwegian pop star Dagny for this delicious ditty! 

15.  This Side of the Island (Hamilton Leithauser) - American singer/songwriter and former lead singer of The Walkmen goes solo! 

16.  Crocodile Tears (Lauren Mayberry) - I'm also continuing to enjoy the confident pop debut of former Chvrches lead singer Lauren Mayberry!  Here's another selection from her excellent album.  

17.  Fainted Love (Conan Gray) - 80s style New Wave from this talented American artist. 

18.  Uptight (Home Counties) - Energetic, percussion heavy Indie Dance-Rock from Bristol band. 

19.  Music Is Better (Rüfüs Du Sol) - Sydney, Australia serves as home base for this alt-dance/electronic band. Perfect for speeding through the waves on your favorite watercraft as the wind blows through your hair.  

20.  Remember (Miami Horror & Tim Ayre) - I knew I'd had them on a previous playlist, but I didn't expect it to be 10 years ago!  Anyway, this Melbourne band is back with more disco/dance funk and fellow-Australian vocalist Tim Ayre pitching in!

Brant's January 2025 Playlist

Another year down the drain!  The fun part was as I was compiling this month's playlist I got to see what other friends had listed as their "Best of 2024".  It's a great way to find new stuff, as well as validate some of my own picks.  January's list leans towards Indie Rock - not sure if that's because that's what a lot of my friends were listening to or if I somehow skewed the choices.  Either way, hope you enjoy!  And Happy New Year!  To listen on Spotify, click HERE.

1.  Uncharted (Clover County) - Athens, GA artist last appeared on our June 2024 playlist, and she's back with more comfort vibes to kick off the first playlist of the year!  

2.  Sexy to Someone (Clairo) - Another Georgia native serves up this great little tune, produced by Leon Michels - one of the original members of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings!  

3.  Enemies (Magic City Hippies) - Miami band keeps the smooth Indie vibe going! 

4.  Gravity (Pale Waves) - This was on my friend Tim's "Best of 2024" list, and I loved the 90's pop rock feel to the song!  

5.  El Camino High (Moody Joody) - Nashville band is serving mellow country and classic cars! 

6.  Lucy (Pacific Avenue) - Energetic Alt Rock from Down Under! 

7.  Sunday Best (Lauren Mayberry) - Sometimes when I'm Lyfting, if I hear a song I like I'll Shazam it.  This was one such tune!  Scottish lead singer and percussionist of Chvrches goes solo and keeps the frenetic beats front and center! 

8.  Bed Chem (Sabrina Carpenter) - Is there nothing Sabrina can't sing?!?  Love the 80s R&B vibes she's bringing to this bedroom jam.  

9.  Lonely Dancers (Conan Gray) - Another one from a friend's "Best of 2024" list!  Muscular New Wave beats that bring to mind classic bands like Men Without Hats.  

10.  Beat of Your Heart (Purple Disco Machine) - We've had a few songs from the latest PDM album, so I figured why not one more before year end? 

11.  Sweet & Sublime (L'Impératrice feat. Erick the Architect) - Minimalist funk as only the French can do it!  

12.  From Here (NxWorries) - The latest Anderson.Paak project retains his classic soul leanings.  

13.  Got to Get Better in a Little While (Derek & the Dominoes) - I heard this on the soundtrack to "Dark Winds" (great show, btw!) and immediately made a note to download it!  Classic Clapton. 

14.  Tell Me Why U Do That (Grace Bowers & the Hodge Podge) - Why aren't more bands doing old school blues/funk like this???  This lady rocks! 

15.  Blood Moon (Josiah & the Bonnevilles) - We had his cover of Taylor Swift on last month's playlist, so I was curious to hear some of his own songs.  This tune did not disappoint.  

16.  I'd Rather Overdose (honestav feat. Z) - Multi-genre artist from Springfield, MO sings with experience beyond his years.  

17.  The Architect (Kasey Musgraves) - I caught Kasey when she came through Charlotte last month and she put on a great show.  The connection she has to her fans is tangible.  

18.  Merry Go Round (Victoria Williams) - This is from the 80's, but it popped up on my iPod the other day and I forgot how much I liked it.  I figured it was a positive reminder to keep the "Merry" in the Merry Go Round as we enter a new year!
